Not covered by the tray system
- .17 HMR, .22 WMR, .22 WRF and .17 WSM — case head Ø6.15, larger than the .22 LR pocket. Use the Sleeve Case range, cut to calibre.
- .25 ACP — clears the bore, but at 23 mm overall it is too short for the 22 mm pistol sleeve to hold when the case is inverted.
- .454 Casull, .460 S&W and .500 S&W — too tall to stand on the pistol riser under a 95 mm lid. They run in the Magnum and Big Bore trays instead.
- .44 Magnum and .44 Special in the lever tray — the rim passes the collar, but at roughly 41 mm overall they are too short for a 36 mm collar to hold when inverted. Use Pistol — Large Bore.
- .45-70, .405 Winchester, .450 Marlin and .348 Winchester in the lever tray — rims and belts wider than the Ø13.58 collar. .45-70 and .348 Win go in Big Bore; .405 Win and .450 Marlin in Magnum.
- Anything longer than 95 mm loaded — the internal height of the case. The lid will not close.

How to read the chart
The fit measurement is the widest part of the cartridge that actually enters the pocket — and which part that is depends on how the tray holds the round:
- Rifle trays — the round sits head-down in a pocket, so the rim, belt or case head governs, whichever is widest.
- Rimmed Lever — the round drops through a collar to the floor of the case, so the rim has to pass through the bore. This is why a .30-30 (rim Ø12.85) fits and a .45-70 (rim Ø15.44) does not.
- Pistol trays — the round sits projectile-down, so only the case body enters. The rim stays proud, which is what you get hold of. A .357 is therefore selected on its Ø9.63 case head, not its Ø11.18 rim.
- .22 LR — the case enters and the rim deliberately does not. The rim is what holds the round.
- 12 Gauge — the shell stands crimp-down, so the Ø20.83 hull enters and the Ø22.8 rim stays above the face.
Where the chart says only 3.0 mm proud or only 5.0 mm proud, the round fits but less brass stands above the tray to grip.
Choosing a pistol tray
One bore can't be snug across the whole handgun range — a .45 ACP case head measures 12.09 mm and a .38 Special 9.63 mm. That is nearly 2.5 mm of spread, so the pistol tray comes in three bores. Pick by case head diameter, not by what the pistol is chambered in.
- Small Bore, Ø10.38 — the volume tray, and where most shooters start. 9 mm, .38 Special and .357 Magnum all live here, 135 rounds to a tray. A .357 sits with 0.38 mm a side.
- Mid Bore, Ø11.21 — the .40 family on its own: .40 S&W, 10 mm Auto and .357 SIG, held at 0.22 mm a side.
- Large Bore, Ø12.61 — .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .44 Magnum and .44 Special. It will also take the .40 family if you'd rather run one tray, though they sit looser than they would in the Mid Bore.
Turn the case over and nothing moves
Every tray is dimensioned against the internal height of the case, not just the cartridge. A round only escapes if it can rise far enough to clear the top of its pocket, so each tray is sized such that the lid stops it first.
- Handgun — rounds sit projectile-down on a raised floor. What stands proud is brass, never the bullet: 11.7 mm on a 9 mm, 22.4 mm on a .357.
- 12 gauge — shells stand crimp-down on the floor of the case with the brass head up, 8–14 mm of it exposed on a 2¾" load.
- .22 LR — hangs on its rim with the projectile shielded in the pocket below. 360 rounds to a tray.
- Rimmed lever — rounds stand on the floor of the case inside a 36 mm collar, leaving 25–29 mm to grab.
Only commonly available commercial calibres are shown. Trays are universal within each family — if your calibre isn't listed, it likely shares a case-head family with one that is. Because a tray has to accept every case head in its family, cartridges at the small end of a group sit with more room around them than a calibre-specific pocket would give. They stand square and won't roll, but the fit isn't a grip. Dimensions quoted are nominal SAAMI/CIP figures measured against maximum cartridge specification; printing tolerance and ammunition variation mean a small margin is normal.

Our loading blocks and Packout inserts use a different sizing system to the Universal Tray: four bore sizes, chosen on case head or rim diameter rather than by cartridge family.
Measure the widest part of the base of your case — the rim on a rimmed cartridge, the belt on a belted magnum, the head on a rimless case — and choose the next size up.

What does not fit the Packout inserts
The organiser lid has to close over the rounds, so there is a length ceiling as well as a diameter limit — roughly 70 mm on the 10 mm insert, 85 mm on the 12 mm, 86 mm on the 14 mm and 92 mm on the 16 mm. These clear the bore on width but are too long:

Rim too large for even the 16 mm bore: .50-70 Government · .50-90 Sharps · .470 Nitro Express · .577 Snider · .577-450 Martini-Henry · all shotshell.
Rimfire. A .22 LR rim measures about 7 mm against a 10.6 mm pocket, so it drops into a loading block but sits loose and tips over. Use the .22 LR Universal Tray (360 rounds on the rim) or the Sleeve Case range, cut to calibre.
Cartridges within about 2 mm of a length ceiling — .270 Win, .30-06 and .280 Rem on the 12 mm, and most belted magnums on the 14 mm — will fit on factory specification, but handloads seated long may not. Test one loaded round before filling a tray. Dimensions quoted are nominal SAAMI/CIP figures; printing tolerance and case manufacturer variation mean a small margin is normal.
